Connect a preset agent to a Slack app so your team can mention it in Slack.
The agent replies in the thread, and approval-gated tool calls show `Approve` and `Deny` buttons in the same thread.

## Before you start

Slack must be able to reach your Tracecat API at `TRACECAT__PUBLIC_API_URL`.

## Connect a Slack app

1. Open the preset from `Agents`, then select the `Channels` tab.
2. Under `Custom Slack App`, click `Connect`.
3. Choose `New App` to create an app from a pre-filled manifest, or `Existing App` to connect a Slack app you already have.

For `New App`:

1. Click `Copy` next to `Export app manifest`. The manifest includes the endpoint URL, OAuth redirect URL, bot scopes, and `app_mention` event subscription for this preset.
2. Open [Slack Apps](https://api.slack.com/apps), click `Create New App`, then select `From an app manifest` and paste the manifest.
3. Install the app to your Slack workspace.
4. Back in Tracecat, click `Next`.

For `Existing App`, copy the `Endpoint URL` and `OAuth redirect URL` from the connect dialog.
In Slack, use the endpoint URL as the `Event Subscriptions` request URL with the `app_mention` bot event and as the `Interactivity` request URL, then add the OAuth redirect URL.

To finish:

1. Enter the app's `Client ID`, `Client secret`, and `Signing secret` from Slack's `Basic Information` page.
2. Click `Connect to Slack` and approve the install.

Tracecat shows `Slack integration connected.` when the channel is active.

## Chat with the agent

Invite the app to a Slack channel, then mention it with your request.
The agent replies in the thread, and replies that mention it in the same thread continue the same agent session.
Reactions on your message show whether the agent is working, finished, or failed.

## Approve tool calls in Slack

Tools that require approval on the preset pause the agent in Slack too.
See [Human-in-the-loop](/agents/human-in-the-loop) to set approval rules.

For each pending call, the agent posts an `Approval required` message with the tool name, arguments, and `Approve` and `Deny` buttons.
After a reviewer clicks a button, Tracecat updates the message with the decision and the reviewer, and the agent continues once every pending call in the batch has a decision.
To edit tool arguments before approving, review the call in the agent inbox instead.

## Manage the connection

Open the connect dialog again from the `Channels` tab to update credentials.
Click `Rotate endpoint` to issue a new endpoint URL, then update the Slack app's `Event Subscriptions` and `Interactivity` request URLs.
Click `Disconnect` to remove the Slack connection from the preset.

Changing `TRACECAT__SIGNING_SECRET` invalidates existing endpoint URLs.
